What first made me wonder about this was when a fantastic violin player on You-Tube (sori1004jy) who's videos I was following had their account banned for copyright violation. I was blown away by how someone videoing themself playing a violin could violate copyright. I had always understood that copyright violation was when you tried to profit off of another's work without their permission. I guess I was way wrong, and the more I hear about things getting reported on the web, I find that I have seen a good deal of copyright violation throughout my life. I could report thousands of people every day for violations, but do I? No. Why would I? Most people are unaware and are not harming anything. They are just being creative and want to express themselves. I have noticed a large growing number of people that have been getting really pissed about people's creativity though, and that is what really gets me fired up. They have no reason to report other than to report. I have a feeling they just didn't like the work and maybe found it amateurish or distasteful.
People that go around reporting others for pure spite just ruins sites like this and You Tube and even sites like Myspace. People are just wanting to express themselves, and everyone just does it in different ways. Why punish the one's that try to live peacefully and quiet. You guys are just picking battles with the wrong group. I can bet that the people that report people on the web don't go around in real life reporting the ones they know that download music illegally (because who doesn't know at least a couple of people in their life), or going to schools and report all the violations in art class (don't even try to deny that there aren't any violations going on there). I am sure there are several examples I could give on many things, but don't want to make a long, lengthy, drawn out jumble of writing.
My point here is don't be a prick. If you see a blatant theft of art, report if you want to. But if a person is just being creative and sharing, then leave that up to the company to do what they wish. Of course sites like DA are going to remove the piece if reported to cover their rear, and they could just as easily have one person sitting there searching on their own all day removing these things, but they don't. And why? Because it's lame and they know it. Reporting the innocent people is just abusing a bad system that is meant to protect the company from the state, not the users from each other.
My apologize if this is poorly written in any way but I am not a writer and don't try to be great at it. A's in English class but that was a long time ago.
I would also like it know I am not trying to bash anyone that reports people this way. I am simply trying to educate them on how little sense it makes. Also, the way it seems they single people out by doing it for no other reason than to be rude and bullying.
Lost a great guy from this site over this,

So break yourself against my stones
And spit your pity in my soul
You never needed any help
You sold me out to save yourself
And I won't listen to your shame
You ran away, you're all the same...
